Cold Case (2021) Malayalam movie review

Directed By Tanu Balak starring Prithviraj and Aditi Balan in lead.

A fisherman gets a skull covered in a plastic bag, considering the seriousness of issue and contraversy a special team headed by Asst Commissioner Sathyajith is roped in to investigate the case. A media person who does works on parapsychology Medha encounters some mysterious activities at her new house. The story unfolds from two angles one being the logical way and other based on belief.

The first part of the movie is really intriguing maintaining a mystery around the happenings but moving towards last the script struggled to make it convincing. Prithviraj is fit as Sathyajith and Aditi did her part well too.

Verdict: watchable mystery thriller

A Taxi Driver (2017) Korean Movie Review

Directed by Hung Jang starring Kang Ho Song and Thomas Kretschman in lead.

In 1980 A taxi driver who is in need of money takes up a task to drive a foreigner from Seoul to Gwangju. Later he comes to know the foreigner is not actually the person whome he thought to be. What they faces at Gwangju and how they comes out follows.

This movie is Based on a true story of Uprising at Gwangju in 1980 by students and residents against the government. 

With terrific acting by lead characters, good making and spectacular visuals this movie turns out to be a classic.

Verdict: A Classic movie not to be missed.

Directed by Sunil S starring Alenciar, Santhosh Keezhatoor, Sreejeya , Anil Nedumangad etc. in lead roles.

Roy, Ajayan and a young man who drives a car is going for a small trip. On the way they share 4 real life stories among themselves and at last they themselves become part of the fifth story which completes the anthology.

The movie conveys how authority and power in some peoples hands changes lives of many others. Narrated in the back ground of darkness in Night and sex the movie trues to convey a good message. 

The movie is haunting and is well crafted in duch a way that we feel like we are in that place. 

Verdict: Watchable Phsychological Thriller

Directed by Guy Ritchie starring Jason Statham and Holt Mccallany in lead roles.

Movie starts of with a robbery from a Cash Truck van with couple of crew members dying. A mysterious character Mr. H or Hill comes to this Cash Truck company. Movie moves on with revelation of who is Mr. H and what is his motive.

Movie is presented very well as a thriller and the lead casts good performance also makes it good.

Verdict: very good thriller

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj starring Dhanush, James Cosmo, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Joju George in lead.

When Suruli a nomadic Gangster from Madurai comes in between two gangsters Peter and Sivadoss at London things gets changed. 

Suruli entertains mass movie lovers with Dhanushs acting skills and Mass scenes throughout the movie. Eventhough the storyline and situations are seen a lot of times Suruli carries forward the movie in his shoulder making it a decent watchable mass movie.

Verdict: watchable mass movie

Roy and Tina are recently married and trying to start a life with immense love for each other at Singapore. Roy is a physics specialist who is currently researching on Lunar Eclipse and its impact on people. Tina likes ro spend most of her time reading books. The movie moves on with what happens to their lives. 

This movie is made by a small Malayali group from singapore and being their first attempt lot of flaws are there in this movie. Lead casts performance, presentation style , lack of funds all are evident in this movie though we can forget them. The best part is music department with good BGM and couple of good songs.

Verdict: A watchable Phsychological thriller

The Call (2020) Korean Movie Review

Directed by Lee Chung Hyun starring Jong Seo and Park Shin Hye in lead roles.

Young sook from past and Seo Yeon from present happens to be in contact through a cordless phone. Each one tries to change their lives to a better one in present by taking back their losses. What happwns to their fate is what the call tells. This movie is inspired from a 2011 British movie the caller. Director uses a women centric cast in the movie and both the lead casts have given a very solid performance taking command over each scenes. Good visuals too add to the perfection of this thriller.

Verdict: A good thriller

13 Hours : The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi English Movie Review

Directed by Michael Bay starring James Dale, John Krasinski in lead.

Almost like his previous movies Michael Bay has given a product which feels like a video game. Trying to leave the reality and bringing a fictional content giving importance to life of six CIA security contractors including Rone woods and Jack Silva , the director fails terribly. Too much of gun shots and explosion leaves the movie in a difficult phase to watch.

Verdict: failed attempt

Soo Jin wakes up after a major accident in hospital bed, she has lost her memory. Aling with her husband Ji Hoon she moves to their flat. Trying to recollect her old memories she sees a lot of things like vision predicting future. Viewers are kept thrilled throughout the movie trying to understand what is actually happening. Good performances and very good climax adds to the movies succes.

Verdict: Very Good Mystery Thriller

Rang De (2021) Telugu Movie Review

Directed by Venki Atluri starring Nithin and Keerthi Suresh in lead.

Anupama and Arjun are childhood friends who grew up together. After completing their college Anu realizes that she is in love with Arjun. But he doesn't have that sort of emotion and rather he is jealous. Movie shows how they get together and how it goes on. Story may not have much difference from what we saw in the past butthe director manages to bring necessary changes suiting the present day. Good visuals and good music carries the movie forward in an entertaining manner.

Verdict: entertaining Romantic movie

Directed by Indhra Subramanian starring Thamannah, GM Kumar, Pashupathi in lead.

Anuradha an IT specialist daughter of a renowned crime novelist Ganeshan is presently working for Malar in police crime records project. Their systems get hacked all of a sudden. Ganeshan is suffering from Alzheimer's and Anu Wants to sell their old home for treatment of her father. An unfortunate murder happens at that house. Different and non related tracks are narrated along the series and the curiosity of how this non related tracks connects gets us hooked up. And well they connects pretty well at the end.

Verdict: Very good thriller series

The Conjuring : The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) English Movie Review

Directed by Michael Chaves starring Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga , Ruari O Connor in lead.

An unfortunate murder happens in a city with doubts of demonic possession. Ed Warren and Loraine Warren who are para normal activity investigators sense the presence of demonic possession and they are hunting for the source. New director have brought an overall shift in the narration style rather than being a normal horror movie this movie adds up mystery elements and gives prior importance to investigation. Jump scare scenes may be less compared to its former parts but the quality is in top notch.

Verdict: good mystery horror thriller

Directed by Oriol Paulo Starring Mario Casas , Aura Garrido, Alexandra Jimenez in lead.

An unfortunate mistake happens in the life of Mateo Vidal and he is trying to recover from it. Olivia costa comes to his life and they together are trying to make a new life. Each episodes starts with different characters and life from their point of view, as such a non linear narrationn is used. From the maker of best spanish thriller movies The Innocent is meeting expectations. With a different narrative style and thrill throughout prompts you to watch it in a stretch.

Verdict: very good thriller short series

Directed by Priyadarshan starring Maniyanpilla Raju, Lisi, Shankar, Nedumudi Venu in lead roles.

Born to a brahmin family Shivasubramanyam has his fate to become a priest at temple. He is also in a small time Bank Job. He happens to see Rohini a Ballet dancer and instantly falls in love with her. Movie proceeds with how Shivasubramanyam an innocent person conveys her love to Rohini and how she reacts to it. 

Verdict: a good comedy entertainer

Directed by Craig Gillespie starring Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter in lead roles.

Estella is a different kid at school, at some points she loses her cool and behaves like an extremist. She is expelled from school and her mother take her to another city and on the way some incidents happen which changes her life. Looking overall at the story shows a sinple revenge but with a different narrative using fashion designing in background makes this movie a different kind. Emmas stone has given a tremendous performance in the movie.

Verdict: A good and different revenge drama

Sulthan (2021) Tamil Movie Review

Sulthan is directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan starring Karthi, Rashmika, Lal, Yogi Babu in lead.

Karthis father promises a group of farmers to protect their village. Affer a sad incident Karthi who is a robotic specialist with great dreams had to take up the challenge along with his Brothers or rather goons of his father to save the village. A movie which moves promisingly showing the shift in livesof goons soon moves to a usual and seen many time story. Eventhough the story is repeated the visuals and action scenes were good with Karthi putting in good efforts.

Verdict: usual storyline with good visuals and action

Anveshanam (2020) Malayalam Movie Review

Anveshanam is Directed by Prasobh Vijayan starring Jayasurya, Sruthi Ramachandran, Vijay Babu, Liyona, Nandu and Lena in lead character.

Aravind (Jayasurya) works in media ,his wife Kavitha (Sruthi) and two kids make gis family. Their elder son falls from stair and with help of Gautham (Vijay Babu) he is admitted to hospital. What happens at hospital and is there anything hidden in the incident thats what anveshanam has to say. Made entirely in a non linear manner with showing incidents at different time frames and connects everything at last , Anveshanam is a good thriller for almost all the time. Makers have induced intentionally a emotional track and social message towards last which has played spoiler for a movie which would have ended as a great thriller.

Verdict: Good thriller for majority running time.

Alex and his friend Archana plans a weekend trip to place without phones or any other gadgets which disturbs their Life. Movie is about the happenings in that trip. With 2 possibilities movie keeps audience guessing throughout. Rather than suspense angle movie gives importance to minds of people and their act making it a phsychological thriller.

Verdict: A watchable Phsychological Thriller

The Last Two Days is directed by Santhosh Lakshman starring Deepak Parambol and Nandan Unni in lead.

Inspector srikanths comes for an investigation related to missing of three young politicians. Movie shows how Srikanth goes own with the investigation. This movie gives importance to social justice. Its not a seat edge thriller but defenitely watchable and could have been better with a solid script.
