Erida (2021) Malayalam Movie Review

Directed by V K Prakash starring Nassar, Samyuktha Menon and Kishore in lead.

Sankar Ganesh a businessman and a gambler marries Anu a young girl at his age of 60. They comes to bangalore for a poker game. After game they come back to kerala and there Mahi Varma comes to their home when Sankar is not at home.

Erida is a greek Goddess of strife and discord. Anu the character played by Samyuktha Menon resembles Erida. This movie is made as a thriller but too much lag has spoiled the mood. A very late suspense from nowhere also feels very jard to fit into the plot. Samyuktha has portrayed the character well with her looks gestures and mannerisms. 

Verdict: Below Average Thriller

The lead actors have given good performance in this emotionally driven thriller series. The makers have tried to maintain a good thrill throughout keeping the curiosity of what actually happened. 

Verdict: A genuine emotional thriller series

Arun a business man married to Sujatha and has a daughter Nivi. He convinces Sujatha that he is going for a business trip to Malaysia but had other plans. Arun moves into an unfortunate siruation and the movie tells how he comes out of it.

An usual story presented well with good level of entertainment. The lead actors have given appreciatable performance. 

Verdict: A simple comedy entertainer

Korey Wise, Kevin Richardson, Antron Mccay, yusuf Salaam and Raymond Santana are framed for a rape case which happened on central park. The series moves forward telling what happens to these 5 boys.

Based on real incident famously known. As the central park murder this is one of the best real life story series. First 2 seasons put us through the best possible nail bitting thrill and then next two seasons touch us emotionally. There is no moments of lag in this series which moves as fast as possible and comes to a completion in just 4 episodes. All the lead actors have given very much interesting performance on screen.

Verdict: one of the  Best real life story adapted series

The Vanished Murderer (2015) Mandarin Movie Review

Directed by Chi Leung Law starring Ching Wan Lau, Yiyan Jiang, Xiaolu Li and Ka tung Lam in lead.

Inspector Song Donglu sets out to find Fu Yuan who escaped the jail. What does he have to face at the place were probably she might be there is all about the vanished murderer.

Being a sequel to the The Bullet Vanishes (2012) this movie fails to create the same tempo. Too much sub plot which is confusing spoils the game here. The lead actors have given a good as well as emotional performance and the quality and picturisation is good too. The movie fails to maintain a normal narration and ends up very much confusing.

Verdict: Avoidable Thriller

Starting off with the rules of Squid Game played by Kids the series moves into an intense world of kids games. A group of people lines up to play the game and each game have some surprise to offer.

Moving from each episode to next this series keeps audience in tensed and nail biting situation. Interesting script along with brilliant making and terrific acting performance, Squid Game is there ro be watched.

Brahmam (2021) Malayalam Movie Review

Directed by Ravi K Chandran Starring Prithviraj, unni Mukundan , Mamtha Mohandas and Shankar in lead.

Ray Mathews a blind musician happens to meet Anna due to an accident. She invites him to her fathers Bar where he performs and impress old aged super star Uday Kumar. What happens to the life of Ray Mathews after that is what Brahmam is about.

Brahmam is the remake of movie Andhadhun which gave Ayushman Khurana a National Award. Brahmam tried to be an exact copy of Andhadhun and sometimes even the camera angles looked same. 

The character is not suiting Prithviraj and Mamtha couldnt do justice to the role portrayed very well by Tabu. Unni Mukundan gave a passable performance.

For those who have seen Andhadhun there is nothing new to offer in Brahmam for others Brahmam might seem to be thrilling

Verdict: Watchable Thriller

Directed by Liz Garbus starring Amy Ryan , Thomasin McKenzie and Gabriep Byrne in lead.

Shannan Gilbert a sex worker goes missing and her mother Mari Gilbert sets out to find the truth.

Director gives a different approach to the movie questioning the incompetence and lack of interest of the authorities while dealing with the cases involving prostitutes. Amy Ryan gives a very good performance throughout the movie. The movie keeps us emotionally attached to it and gives some thrills too.

Verdict: Good emotional thriller

With a very good engaging script and solid performances Spotlight turns out to be a classic movie.

Coming under logicless comedy entertainer genre the movie fails to keep entertainment level high on all scenes thereby bringing lag in parts. Lalu Alex in comedy avatar after a long time is positive to the movie as he keeps audience entertained. Climax twists were good but came too late.

Liam Neeson and Brian Bradley have given an incredible performance in this crime drama which doesnt have those loud gun shots and Chopping of head.

Mrinal Takurs presence adds to the beauty of the movie. Solid performance by Paresh Rawal is another positive in the movie. Backed by adrenaline pumping sports scenes and good background scores the movie turns to be a good sports drama.

Will definitely miss a engaging theaterical experience for this movie.

Tejaswini who started a Start up firm in partnership with Antony loses her phone and buys a not so famous companies phone online. There is some mystery revolving around the new phone and it changes her life.

Marketed as a Techno horror movie it tries to explain some unrealistic things using technology and science. The concept seems interesting and fresh but the presentation fails terribly. With a bunch of cliche horror scenes and Bgms which feels like we have already heard before Chathurmugham ends as an average movie. There is nothing much from the lead actors too which are commentable.

Verdict: Average horror movie

Kate has given a very good performance in one of the most complicated character of her career. With equal mix of thrill, suspense, romance and emotions Mare of Easttown is one of its kind series.

A media person who does works on parapsychology Medha encounters some mysterious activities at her new house. The story unfolds from two angles one being the logical way and other based on belief.

The first part of the movie is really intriguing maintaining a mystery around the happenings but moving towards last the script struggled to make it convincing. Prithviraj is fit as Sathyajith and Aditi did her part well too.

Verdict: watchable mystery thriller

Lead casts performance, presentation style , lack of funds all are evident in this movie though we can forget them. The best part is music department with good BGM and couple of good songs.

Too much of gun shots and explosion leaves the movie in a difficult phase to watch.

Different and non related tracks are narrated along the series and the curiosity of how this non related tracks connects gets us hooked up. And well they connects pretty well at the end.

Verdict: Very good thriller series

Ed Warren and Loraine Warren who are para normal activity investigators sense the presence of demonic possession and they are hunting for the source. New director have brought an overall shift in the narration style rather than being a normal horror movie this movie adds up mystery elements and gives prior importance to investigation. Jump scare scenes may be less compared to its former parts but the quality is in top notch.

Verdict: good mystery horror thriller

From the maker of best spanish thriller movies The Innocent is meeting expectations. With a different narrative style and thrill throughout prompts you to watch it in a stretch.

Made entirely in a non linear manner with showing incidents at different time frames and connects everything at last , Anveshanam is a good thriller for almost all the time. Makers have induced intentionally a emotional track and social message towards last which has played spoiler for a movie which would have ended as a great thriller.

Verdict: Good thriller for majority running time.

Kho Kho (2021) Malayalam Movie Review

Kho Kho is directed by Rahul Riji Nair starring Rajisha Vijayan, Mamitha Baiju and Venkitesh in lead.

An old sports star comes to a school in under developed Eyot as a physical education teacher. The students there are font of Kho Kho game and the movie is about how Kho Kho changes their life. This movie is having all components of sports drama. Kho Kho is not a well known game a lottle bit more detailing into the game and strong picturization of the game would have made this movie a better product. Rajisha Vijayan has givel a solid performance in this movie. 

Verdict: A watchable sports drama

Army Of The Dead (2021) English Movie Review

Army Of The Dead is directed by Zack Snyder starring Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Tig Notaro and Huma Qureshi in lead.

Its a zombie movie and you can expect all those which usually comes in a zombie movie. Director had tried to bring a change in the approach by making the Zombies organised and adding a pinch of heist genre to the movie. This movie is not made in big canvass as directors previous movies but on screen we feel so which can be added to the credits of director. Director has also conveyed a big message that when the zombies are organised , humans on other side are greedy and jealous of one another that exposes our risks in survival.

Verdict: Usual Zombie movie with pinch of Heist and good making.

Ludo (2020) Hindi Movie Review

Ludo is directed by Anurag Basu starring Abhishek Bachchan, Pankaj Tripathi, Rajkumar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Rohit Saraf, Fatima Sana, Sanya Malhotra, Pearly Maani in lead.

Just as a Ludo game this movie revolves around 4 main characters and how their lives move on and overlap each other. As a a ludo game when one advances the other is going back or rather when ones life meets tragedy the others turn comedy here is were the different characters overlap. Movie also conveys a good message that whether we win or lose finally everyone goes to same place. 

Verdict: A good colorful entertainer

Aarkkariyam (2021) Malayalam Movie Review

Aarkkariyam is directed by Sanu John Varghese starring Biju Menon, Parvathy thiroth , Sharrafudheen in lead roles.

Roy and Shirley who lives in Mumbai plans to visit shirleys Father Ittyevara at Kottayam just before Covid Nation wide lockdown. Movie proceeds as a family drama until a revelation about past comes to picture. With the concept or plot director would have created a seat edge thriller but he sticked on with a slow narration giving importance to personal feelings and behaviour during different situations. Eventhough the narration is slow certain dialogues and very good performance from lead actors keeps us engaging.

Verdict : An engaging slowly narrated thriller drama

The Kungfu Master (2020) Malayalam Movie Review

The Kungfu Master is directed by Abrid Shine starring Neeta Pillai, Jiji Scaria and Sanoop D in lead roles.

Movie revolves around Rishi and Rithu who are sibblings well trained in martial arts. it moves on with what happens to their life. Movie is a predictable action revenge drama were prime importance is given to action sequences. Neeta Pillai who had trained for around one year has given a solid performance and exceled in action sequenses. Movie could not cope up with Abrid Shines previous movies quality wise also a thin and weak script part played the spoiler. Visuals had been well captured.

Verdict: A normal predictable revenge drama with some extraordinary action sequences

Burning (Beoning) (2018) Korean Movie Climax Explained

Please dont read if you jave not watched the movie.

The climax can be interpreted in two different ways.

1. A plain straight forward interpretation

Ben can be understood as a sociopath killer who kills women who thinks freely , he calls then green house. Jong su understands it and take revenge on him for killing hae mi.  There are many clues pointing towards this interpretation. 

a.  Ben says he has found next green house and its close to jong su

b. jong su confirms that no physical green house is burned near his home.

c. Ben says he is bot working but playing.

d. Hae mis watch is found in Bens collection of women accesories

e. Presence of Cat named boiler at Bens house 

f. Last call from Hae mi to Jong su were he could here panting and sound of running.

g. Hae Mis room is arranged perfectly which is the character of Ben and not Hae mi.

2. Different interpretation 

Jong su is seen writing his novel before climax and the climax scene which comes after the scene may be what he writes in his novel and Ben actually may be a gentleman and Hae Mi might have just moved on to find the great hunger and meaning to her life.

Scenes pointing to this climax.

a. Ben has many friends and he is treated as a gentleman by all and there is no scene in this movie pointing towards other side on Ben.

b. Before climax Jong Su is shown of writing his novel and scene cuts into Bens house.

c. Hae mi on multiple occasions have told that she just wanted to disappear and she is afraid of death also.

d. Hae Mi is shown as an unrwliable person were on multiple occasions she has created fictional stories and narrated it as real like the case of well which she fell during childhood which jong su cant even remember.

Burning (Beoning) (2018) Korean Movie Review

Burning is directed by Lee Chang Dong starring Yooh Ah In, Jeon Jong Seo, Steven Yeun in lead roles.

Jong Su who is struggling in life and wants to become a writer meets his childhood friend Hae Mi. Soon they start loving each other and the things gets changed when Ben a rich person comes to their life. The movie is keeping mystery elements throughout and even climax can be interpreted in different ways.

Verdict: A good Mystery Drama which requires patience

Kachi (2021) Malayalam Movie Review

Kachi is directed by Binshad Nazar starring Binu Pappu , Manohari Amma and Jaimol in lead.

When daughter of seperated parents come to her fathers house an incident happens thats all in Kachi. Kachi was intended to be a small thriller but apart from Manohari Ammas good performance and two good songs there is nothing interesting in kachi.

Verdict: If you have patience and time you can watch this 75 minute cinema

Mirage is directed by Oriol Paulo starring Adriana Ugarte, Chino Darin, Alvaro Morte in lead roles.

Director Oriol Paulo is known for Tge invisible guest, The Body , Julias Eyes some of the best thrillers made ever . Mirage is also yet another fantastic thriller. It uses time traveling concept movie feom present to past and the changes it brings out and the solution. Emotional connect between a mother and daughter is well explained in the movie.

Verdict: thriller fans cannot miss this one.

Mohan Kumar Fans (2021) Malayalam Movie Review

Mohan Kunar Fans is directed by Jis Joy starring Kunchacko Boban, Siddique, Anarkali Nazar , Mukesh , Vinay fort in lead .

Movies shows the life of a veteran superstar Mohan whi had been out of industry for 30 years and The struggle he makes to comeback and make a presence. This movie is for movie lovers and you cant watch it without a drop of tears falling from your eyes. Siddique has given yet another amazing performance. Hilarious scenes from Vinay Fort were also adding entertainment values to this movie. Kunchacko Boban didnt have much to perform.

Verdict: Good feel good entertainer especially for movie lovers.

Play Back (2021) Telugu Movie Review

Play Back is directed by Hariprasad Jakka starring Dinesh Tej, Arjun Kalyan and Ananya Nagalla in lead.

This movie is insipred from Dark a german series and Signal a korean series. The basic concept of communication between past and present along with the changes it brings is shown in the movie. First half shows mostly 2 love stories at ywo different times and the movie moves into a thriller in the second half. Suspense is predicatble but the movie ends on a positive note. This movie also brings an emotional attachment for viewers to the characters as well as sutuations of the movie. 

Verdict: A good thriller with emotional attachment
